The IA recognises volunteering as an effective pathway to personal development and work; the service helps the volunteers gain new skills and experience. It has particularly been useful for people who have lacked the UK work experience. Since the 1980s the association has supported between 15 and 50 work placements and volunteering opportunities annually. The service has helped many people to understand the world of work, realise their full potential and secure employment. The IA has supported the volunteers in job search and provided them with job references.
